A city employee recently dubbed San Diego's "streets czar" was arrested Monday on suspicion of child molestation and is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 28. Mario Sierra, 47, was booked late Monday morning on suspicion of committing lewd and lascivious acts with a minor under age 14, according to jail officials. Sierra was later released around 9 p.m. after he posted bail. He faces up to eight years in prison if convicted, Steve Walker of the District Attorney's Office said. "I was shocked," said Jorge Mancillas, who lives next door to Sierra. "[It's] hard to believe that he would do something like that... He's a family person.“ this is weird because he is a city worker, there suppose to be all trust worthy and for someone to go and do this is really weird or strange.

Imperial beach’s skate park is causing problems for neighborhood residents. The city manager has been recently reported because the skate park has caused several problems at the recreation center. ASHLEY CARACOZA-TUESDAY--- Today I read about A baby born weighing just one pound, 10 ounces is finally well enough to leave a local hospital. Four-month-old Enzo Ocio left UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest after being born weighing a mere one pound, 10 ounces. It's shocking. We're just giddy because we never thought it would happen," said mother Nina Ocio. "All of a sudden they told us he was coming home." Nina Ocio and her husband, Rodolfo, are first-time parents. They have been coming to UCSD Medical Center every day since October 10, when Nina Ocio went into pre-term labor at just 25 weeks. You never imagine its going to be this way. You think your third trimester is going to be glorious time. But you're watching a fetus develop in front of your eyes and it’s beyond your realm of imagination," Nina Ocio said. The couple witnessed their son's Improvements from a small area of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, their home away from home. The Ocios would spend up to eight hours a day there, where the nurses became like family. Nina Ocio told 10News that it is incredible that they get to bring him home.
Today I read about how a two year old and his mother have been found dead in a Massachusetts trash bin, leaving authorities Monday to track down whoever killed the two and put them there. Police discovered Maria Avelina Palaguachi 25, and her toddler son Brian Palaguachi dead in a large metal bin on Sunday night in the city of Brockton, about 25 miles south of Boston. Police said they have not found any suspects yet but that these killings are not a random act. Police say this is a confusing investigation for someone to kill a mother and her two year old son. They also say this shouldn’t be a threat to the community. The investigation began Sunday at 9:30, the mothers body was found first the boys was later found. While no one is yet in custody, the district attorney described the investigation as "very active." The gruesome nature of the discovery, he said, added a special urgency and sense of determination.

Scientist , telescope hunts massive hidden object in space. Well, astronomers are getting that feeling about a giant, hidden object in space. Evidence is mounting that either a brown dwarf star or a gas giant planet is lurking that is lurking at the outmost reaches our solar system far beyond Pluto. The theoretical object, dubbed Tyche, is estimated to be four times the size of Jupiter and 15,000 times farther from the sun than Earth, according to a story in the British paper The Independent. Its 27 million-year orbit could also explain a pattern of mass extinction of the earth, scientists say.

Today I read about a new planet that was found way beyond Pluto and it is ten times the size of Jupiter and 15,000 times of earth and it is really big and when they say big they mean big and it is super far. My response to this is that they did good I like science and stuff like that and it is really far so that why I like that and it is far from the sun so it dose not get a lot of sun so it is really cold and wet.

You know how you sometimes can sense that something is present even though you can't see it? Well, astronomers are getting that feeling about a giant, hidden object in space. Evidence is mounting that either a brown dwarf star or a gas giant planet is lurking at the outermost reaches of our solar system, far beyond Pluto. The theoretical object, dubbed Tyche, is estimated to be four times the size of Jupiter and 15,000 times farther from the sun than Earth, according to a story in the British paper The Independent. Astrophysicists John Matese and Daniel Whitmire from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette think data from NASA's infrared space telescope WISE will confirm Tyche's existence and location within two years. The presence of such a massive object in the solar system's far-flung Oort Cloud could explain a barrage of comets from an unexpected direction, according to a December article at Space.com. Its 27 million-year orbit could also explain a pattern of mass extinctions on Earth, scientists say. Brown dwarfs are cold "failed" stars; their dimness and lack of heat radiation can make them hard to detect. Gas giants are huge planets – like Saturn, Jupiter and Neptune – that are made up of gases and may lack a solid surface like Earth's. Whitmire told The Independent that Tyche will probably be composed of hydrogen and helium and have colorful spots, bands and clouds like Jupiter. "You'd also expect it to have moons," he said. "All the outer planets have them.“ Tyche was first hypothesized in 1984 as Nemesis, a dark companion star to the sun. It's been the subject of astronomical research and debate ever since. In July, another Space.com article said the celestial evidence suggests Tyche could not possibly exist. To distinguish it from the Nemesis star theory, Matese and Whitmire are calling their object Tyche, after the good sister of the goddess Nemesis in Greek mythology. Their research is published in Icarus, the International Journal of Solar System Studies.

SDSU is one of the country’s most talented Basketball teams, They are ranked 6th. They have a really good chance to make it to the Final four. They should be favorites in every game they play before the big NCAA Tournament. They are in the lead for the Mountain West Championship. The only team I think that is going be a challenge is BYU, SDSU only lost came against them.
Today I read about how the 4G network for phones is starting to take off. Apparently 4G is barely starting to take off here in the U.S. due to the fact, other countries been having this service. The U.S. is far behind in the 4G world. Apparently the U.S. has one of the slowest 4G’s in the world, compared to other countries, and is technologically behind. The 4G service is more expensive and it has taken longer for the U.S. market to expand.
Today I read about how a killer was tripped up Jenni-Lynn Watson's shorthand while sending text messages came back to haunt the young man who pleaded guilty Tuesday in Syracuse, New York, to killing the college student, a prosecutor said. Although the 20-year-old victim's cell phone was never found, investigators were able to review call and text messages made by Watson and Steven Pieper, the man she was breaking up with, Onondaga County District William Fitzpatrick told CNN. Pieper pleaded guilty in Onondaga County Court to second-degree murder in the strangling of Watson. Rather than 25 years to life, a plea agreement calls for him to receive a sentence of 23 years to life at the March 8 sentencing, Fitzpatrick said, adding Pieper must serve 23 years before he gets a parole hearing."Steven made it clear that he did not want to put the Watson family or his family through a trial in this matter, from the very beginning," defense attorney Scott Brenneck told CNN affiliate YNN. "So after a review of the case, it was an appropriate way to resolve it.

Today's current event was about The California Supreme Court unanimously agreed Wednesday to take up the issue of whether state or county officials have the authority to defend Proposition 8, the 2008 initiative defining marriage as only. The state court decision came in response to a request by the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to examine the question of state law. The appeals courts in San Francisco last month delayed indefinitely consideration of the constitutionality of the state's voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage, so that the state supreme court could examine the standing issue. The California Supreme Court set up an expedited schedule in order to hear oral arguments as early as this September.

Today I read about A Wisconsin woman who said she agreed to cook and clean for a man she met on the internet in exchange for a free place to stay allegedly ended up as his sex slave, prosecutors said Wednesday. The 27-year-old woman met New York resident John Hopkins on the website Craigslist before spending nine days trapped in his apartment, where she claims she was repeatedly raped, according to a district attorney's statement. The woman -- whose name has not been released -- was treated for injuries at Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. The details of her condition are not clear. Authorities charged Hopkins with rape, assault, forcible touching and unlawful imprisonment, arresting him at his Brooklyn apartment on Saturday. He is currently being held on $350,000 bail. The woman claims that she was looking for work in New York and found an advertisement that Hopkins posted on Craigslist, listing a room for rent, according to the complaint. The pair agreed that the woman could stay rent free if she cooked and cleaned for Hopkins, who then paid for her airfare to New York on February 4, 2011.Upon arriving at his apartment, Hopkins allegedly told the woman that she was going to be his slave, the complaint said.

Like most kids, Anthony Burruto started playing baseball in community Little League, ultimately joining the high school team. Born with a birth defect, Burruto, 16, had to have both legs amputated below the knee shortly after he was born. He has played baseball since he was 8, thanks to prosthetic legs. "These legs are my life. This is how I walk every day," he says with pride. "Without these, I'm in a wheelchair, and I don't walk, and I'm never in a wheelchair.“ But after completing a third season on his school's fall team, the teenager says he was shocked to be cut from the spring squad. In disbelief, he told his mother on the way home from tryouts, "I'm cut, Mom, he cut me.“ The way it's supposed to work, only the most talented make the team. But Burruto's family believes Anthony was cut because of his disability. His mother, Diane Burruto, says, "Playing baseball is everything. Baseball is what he does, he loves it -- he excels at it. He puts everything into it.“ Originally from New York, Anthony Burruto moved with his family to Orlando when he was 10. A huge New York Yankees fan, he played in the city's Little League. He began pitching on the big field in an all-star league at 13 and pitched against a varsity team at 14. ESPN featured Burruto on the cover of its magazine as part of its series on athletes who use prosthetics. As a freshman the following year, Burruto made the fall baseball team at Dr. Phillips High School, which has a reputation for its highly competitive sports program. That year his parents allowed the teen, after receiving good grades, to get a tattoo on his arm that reads, "Life threw me a curve ball. So I threw one back.“ Anthony, who boasts an 80 mph fast ball, played three seasons at Dr. Phillips. After finishing up on the fall team his sophomore year, he said he was devastated to be cut from the spring team following tryouts. The next day at school, he said coach Mike Bradley told him he was cut because of the difficulty he'd have covering bunts, with his disability.

Today in the newspaper, I learned about how An Ecuadorean judge ruled Monday in an epic environment case that Chevron was responsible for oil drilling contamination in a wide swath of Ecuador’s northern jungle, the oil giant to pay $8.6 billion in damage and clean up. The amount was far below $27.3 billion recommended by a court. Chevron invested tens of millions of dollars in its legal defense. the award would exceed the $5 billion originally awarded to victims of the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska's Prince William Sound. That jury achieved later the cut down to $507.5 million by the U.S Supreme Court.

ASHLEY CARACOZA -- FRIDAY -- Today I read about A 63-year-old Oklahoma woman in town to visit her son narrowly escaped injury when her rental car became stuck on train tracks in San Diego thanks to bad directions she received from the vehicle's GPS feature, authorities said Thursday. The rented 2009 Hyundai Accent was struck in the rear by a Coaster train at 3298 Kettner Blvd. around 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, according to San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. Darrell Strohl. A short time earlier, the woman had just arrived in San Diego and rented the vehicle to drive to her son's house, Strohl said. It was wet and dark outside, and the GPS directed the woman to turn left onto the railway, which she believed was a street, he said, adding that the car became stuck on some gravel. The woman then heard the sound of an oncoming train and got out of the car, according to the sergeant.

In todays reading I read about a woman suspected of snatching an infant from a New York hospital in 1987 has been indicted on federal kidnapping charges. Ann Pettway was charged with one count of kidnapping in the abduction of Carlina Renae White, now 23, who was reunited with her biological mother in January. Pettway admitted to taking the girl from a Harlem hospital after suffering several miscarriages The grand jury said Pettway "willfully and knowingly" seized the baby, Pettway turned herself in, She faces up to 20 years to life in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 if convicted. White tracked down her birth family in early January, saying she had had a nagging feeling all her life that she was brought up by a family to which she didn't belong. Ernie Allen, president and CEO of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, said White's suspicions grew after the woman who raised her could not produce a birth certificate for her. White's mother, Joy White, told the New York Post last month that she last saw her daughter when she was 19 days old. She took her to a Harlem hospital on August 4, 1987, because the baby had a high fever, a New York police official said. Carlina was admitted to the hospital, and her mother went home to rest. When she returned, the baby was gone. Carlina White's biological father, Carl Tyson, told the Post regarding her disappearance.
