Today I read about, Getting bumped gets more lucrative. Last week, the Department of Transportation released a slew of new rules that will affect the air travel experience. One of the more interesting changes? Getting bumped is now going to get you a lot more money than before. Unfortunately, this also means fares may end up rising. Nearly every airline sells more seats on each flight than it actually has on the airplane. Why? Because people just don't show up.
4-25-11 Today I read about Air traffic resumes at tornado-hit St. Louis airport. I read that on Sunday at the main airport in St. Louis after a tornado struck. knocking out power, shattering windows and sending passengers scrambling for cover from falling debris. A handful of incoming fights touched down at Lambert-St. Louis. Airport Saturday night for the first time after the powerful tornado hit Friday night. Airport spokesman Jeff Lea said Sunday morning that outgoing flights had resumed and were running on schedule. Airlines reported they are at 100% operation with no cancellations at the airport. Carriers on the airport's A Concourse were at about 80%.
Mon. blog- today I read about an Los Angeles Department Chopper had to make a emergency landing Sunday morning after a gunman opened fire at the helicopter. The good news is that the pilot and the others on board were okay. Were this happened was in the area of Van Nuys when the police got a call like around 6 a.m.. The helicopter was responding as backup to a patrol car dispatched to the scene. The chopper was toad away for repair and investigation. One of the shooters was caught and reports say that there was another gunman with him.
Today I read about two people who died and four were wounded early Monday in a shooting outside an Oakland California nightclub, police said. Investigators are looking for three suspects who may have been armed with an assault rifle, according to the Oakland Police Department. Two of the injured remained hospitalized in critical condition, police said. Two others were hospitalized in stable condition, according to the department. A second shooting was reported about a block away, police said, but it was unclear if the two incidents were related.

Today's current event was about two people who died in a fire about 1:30am Sunday on Sunday evening Vancouver police revised the number saying firefighters found the additional bodies after sifting through the rubble of the home. they heard a loud explosion just before the home went up in flames. Police spokes woman Kim Kapp said arson investigators and the department's Major Crime Section were looking into the fire and has called in agents with the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
in today i read about Baja’s daily Sol de Tijuana, Guillermo Diaz, the president of Tijuana’s downtown merchant association, stated that TJ cops are still extorting big bucks from tourists, primarily U.S. citizens who arrive in vehicles. Diaz said that — despite claims to the contrary by other public officials — shakedowns are a primary reason why tourism is down in the border city.“[Police] see American plates on a car in town and they stop them,” said Diaz. Tourists have complained that each time they pass through Tijuana, they are subjected to “bajones y mordidas,” slang for extortion money paid to police.Diaz alluded to the fact that it’s easy to spot a disproportionate number of U.S. vehicles being stopped by municipal police in the Zona Norte area. Diaz said there has been a lot of talk about doing something about this problem but little effective action has been taken.

What I have read about today that was interesting was fifty seven militiamen, including several high ranking officers loyal to militia leader Gabriel Tang, were killed when Tang’s forces attacked the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in southern Sudan, Officials said Sunday. Tang’s forces launched the attack at Kaldak on Saturday, the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) said in a statement issued on behalf of Gen. Malaak Ayuen of South Sudan Army. The SPLA is the military wing of the movement that governs Southern Sudan. The SPLA killed 57 of Tang's forces, including three major generals and a number of brigadier generals, according to the statement. In addition, one major general and other brigadier generals were captured, the statement said. Tang himself "narrowly escaped" the fighting, according to the statement. Officials said it was unclear why Tang's forces attacked the troops, but the SPLA said it believes he has been in contact with other rebel groups in the region.

Today I read about Police stopping an Easter Service .The site of a planned outdoor Easter service at one of China's largest independent "house" churches was eerily silent Sunday as police blocked more than 500 worshippers from leaving their homes and detained more than 36 for attempting to attend religious services in Beijing, church officials said.
The gathering place for worshippers was empty as church-like bells sounded in northwest Beijing. Hundreds of uniformed and plain-clothed police officers swarmed the site of Shouwang Church and prevented CNN journalists from accessing the area.
Worshippers spent several months preparing for the Easter service, according to members who spoke with CNN. Police on the scene told CNN they were stationed there for "security reasons."
Shouwang Church's senior pastor Jin Tianming is currently under house arrest by the authorities.
Monday- Today I read about a shooting outside an Oakland night club, on a early Monday. Police have been looking for the 3 suspect that may have been armed with an assault rifle. Two were injured and are in critical condition, the other two were in a stable condition. Two were killed and the police have no one in custody.
4-26-11 Today I read about Man arrested in Colorado mall bomb attempt. I read that Authorities have been investigating a pipe bomb device found after a fire broke out April 20 in a back hallway at Southwest Plaza Mall in Littleton, Colorado. They evacuated everybody in the mall and nobody was hurt. The first suspects was named Moore. He has already been released from a federal prison last week. A federal law enforcement source told CNN Sunday that Moore was serving time for bank robbery when he was released. Federal court records show Moore was sentenced to 18 years in prison for a March 2005 robbery of Whitesville State Bank in Crab Orchard, West Virginia. I also read that know Moore is being held at the Jefferson county jail.
Today I read about 400 people have been killed in Syria across several weeks as the government has cracked down on protesters seeking reform. The Syrian Human Rights Information Link reported at least 416 people have died since March 18 in incidents linked to the violence. The group named 413 of those killed and cited three unidentified bodies. While the vast majority are apparently civilians, the group's list describes a few of the dead as members of the army or police. The United Nations has said it has information that 76 people were killed last week on Friday alone, apparently during peaceful marches, and that the death toll from that day could be much higher.

Today I read about, Mexican federal police rescued 51 migrant hostages who were being held in northeastern Mexico, the country's public security ministry said Tuesday. The hostages were found Monday inside a house in the city of Reynosa, across the border from McAllen, Texas. The operation followed the rescue of 68 hostages the previous week, also in Reynosa. The city is about 90 miles north of the town of San Fernando, where authorities recently uncovered 177 bodies from mass graves. Many of the bodies are believed to be those of bus passengers who were kidnapped. San Fernando is also where the bodies of 72 migrants were found last year.

On Easter Sunday there were large crowds of people at the zoo. Someone was stabbed multiple times. The zoo police did catch one suspect and was planning on turning that person into the police. When the zoo called the police they said that he was seriously injured but that he could breath and was able to answer some questions. This is so wrong, some people take advantage because they know it was Easter so they took advantage that there was a large crowd and no one would b able to suspect or see who it was.
Tuesday- Today I read about a stabbing in a Washington zoo. Police responded to a call at 3:20 p.m. that a teenage male was stabbed multiple times but he was still breathing. It was at an annual Easter Monday African-American Family Celebration, a free event that draws large crowds. A suspect is in custody and is being interrogated.

In todaaay’s reading I read about , A moms missing baby found in a car with engine running . The car was discovered early Saturday morning by an unidentified passerby who noticed the flashing hazard lights. When the witness "approached the car, they found that it was unoccupied, it was running, the driver's door was slightly ajar and there was a baby in the back seat," Perley told reporters Monday. The witness alerted police and the baby was taken to nearby Memorial Hospital, where it was determined to be in good health and then reunited with its grandmother, Perley said. Police also conducted a thorough search using fire and rescue personnel, New Hampshire Fish and Game staffers and police dogs. A murky pond has been drained and an air search was conducted Monday with no sign of Dittmeyer, Perley said. Police are testing physical evidence found at the scene, along with two vehicles -- one of them Krista Dittmeyer's black Nissan Sentra, Perley said in the press conference.
Today I read about Islamic headdresses, the different types, what they stand for, and the recent ban on them in France. The hijab, covers the hair and neck but not the face, and the chador, covers the body but not the face. "If France wants to preserve its beautiful ancient culture from the threat of the dual-identity of immigrants, then the government has a right to do so,“ says one woman. France outlawed the wearing of face masking burqas and niqabs two weeks ago. The burqa is a full-body covering that includes a mesh over the face, while the niqab is a full-face veil with an opening for the eyes. The veil ban is a contentious issue for many, partly because of the broad overlap between the cultural and religious significances of Muslim head scarves.
Today I read about many states, which face looming budget deficits and competing fiscal priorities, are grappling with how to respond to the trend. Between 1989 and 1999, there were 66 exonerations by DNA evidence alone, according to figures compiled by the National Innocence Project, a legal advocacy group. In the decade since, there have been 203 more. Twenty-three states, including Washington, don't offer any financial compensation for the wrongfully incarceted. In the 27 states that do, the reparations vary widely. Northrop and other exonerated individuals from states without compensation laws are left to lobby their state legislatures for a private bill to solely compensate them, or file a civil suit in court. Both are difficult and costly steps.

Well The padres finally won 1 out of their last 5 games. They got swept by the Phillies and they have a series against the braves and so far they won 1 out of 1. The game went into extra innings and on the 13th inning Ryan Ludwick came clutch and did a Walk-off Homer. The Padres are last in the league in hitting % they have like 5 players under .200. So far the padres ace Mat Latos has not won a game this year. Lets hope the padres get it together and make a run for the playoffs.
This morning I read about how the owner of a retreat center testified at the manslaughter trial of self-help author James Ray Tuesday that she heard him tell participants of an ill-fated sweat lodge ceremony that he was God. Ray is accused of manslaughter in the deaths of three people at his October 2009 "Spiritual Warrior" retreat in the desert. At least 15 others who took part in the ceremony became ill. More than 40 other people were uninjured. "I am the Alpha and the Omega. I am God," Hamilton recalled Ray said at the start of the ceremony. She testified she sat outside the sweat lodge and overheard him speak. The ceremony consisted of eight rounds, with each round lasting 10 to 15 minutes. While they were not prevented from leaving, participants have said they were told to wait until the breaks between rounds. Ray's attorneys have said the deaths were accidental and suggested that exposure to an unknown toxin in the lodge -- perhaps a pesticide, rat poison or something in the type of wood used to heat the rocks -- could have caused the fatalities.

Today I read about In the wake of what rebels describe as the heaviest shelling yet by pro-government forces on the port of Misrata, much of the western Libyan city appeared to be a wasteland Wednesday morning. I'm looking around, I can't find a single building that's not either damaged or destroyed, CNN's Reza Sayah said from Tripoli Street, a major thoroughfare in the city. Witnesses said three people were killed and several were wounded after shells detonated near a refugee camp in the critical port area Tuesday. Thousands of migrants have been housed there as they wait for ships to carry them to safety.

Today I read about , Guatemalan authorities arrested an alleged drug lord wanted by both Guatemala and the United States for aiding the transit of cocaine for a Mexican drug cartel. Also Lorenzana and his three sons were labeled "Specially Designated Narcotics Traffickers" by the U.S. Treasury Department last year, a distinction that froze any U.S. assets and prohibits anyone from doing financial transactions with them. The U.S. government was offering a reward of up to $500,000 for information regarding Lorenzana. Lorenzana was transferred to a court building, where he was awaiting a judge for an initial hearing.
Today I read about the vacation spots in Mexico that are perfectly safe. There has been a recent wave of violence caused by turf wars between rival drug cartels and security forces in Mexico, many vacationers are terrified of these actions. Recently in Acapulco a lot of the hotels that normally this time of the year receive spring breakers, mainly from the United States, are completely empty. 2010 was a very good year for Mexico. It’s considered to be a rebound year. More than 22 million tourists visited Mexico last year. For 2011 the goal is to increase our business from 22.4 to 26 million tourists.

Some of the youths boarded a MARTA train a few blocks away.

I read that Eight U.S. service members and an American civilian contractor were killed Wednesday in a shooting at an Afghan air force compound in Kabul. Taliban claim was the brother of the pilot. He said his brother, Ahmad Gull, 48, was in the Afghan Air Force for several years and was injured many times in plane crashes. The Afghan military listed the pilot as being 50 years old. Today I read about the sniper shooting in Syrian city of Daraa on Wednesday night. Nine people were killed by sniper at fire and five killed but their reasons are unknown. Witnesses in Daraa and Syrian said that their was tension between different units of the security forces. Mohsen described two such incidents. One took place Monday in the al-Mataar neighborhood in western Daraa where residents witnessed what appeared to be an exchange of fire between two military units. The Syrian government has argued that citizens want security forces to arrest these kinds of groups.

On todays news I read about how on Wednesday at Florida canal, bodies were found in luggage. Their was two Childs bodies. The remains of two African American children a girl between 6 and 10 years old, and a boy believed to be 10 to 12. The bodies had been in the water long enough to have been affected by the immersion but were still alive. Police wants the public to get involved, and asked to report any missing children, niece, nephew, or so. An autopsy is planned, and investigators are checking missing persons reports in an attempt to identify who the two children might be.

abigail 4-28-11 Today I read about southern storms. I read that Storms of near-epic proportions cut wide swaths of destruction across the South, killing at least 272 people. Also that a breakdown provided by Alabama government Robert office. Showed that violent weather showed claimed lives in 16 Alabama counties. I read that they are used to tornados there in Tuscaloosa. But when you look at the path of destruction that's likely 5 to 7 miles long in an area half a mile to a mile wide it's an amazing scene I read. Some people say that there's part of the city they don’t recognize and they have lived there there entire life.
Today I read about the 14 people killed and the 20 people injured on the explosion. Several French nationals were among the wounded, and Foreign Minister Alain Juppe issued a stiff condemnation of what he called a barbarian terrorist attack which nothing can justify. Such an awful act can only bring indignation and unreserved condemnation. All light must be shed on this revolting crime, officials prosecuted, tried and punished, French authorities will provide assistance to French nationals in Marrakesh.

Today is the NFL draft and for a lot of good NFL prospects, they will begin their career. The San Diego Chargers have the 18th pick, they have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds. This will help them since they didn’t make the playoffs last year. The Chargers might pick a Defensive lineman since they need depth in that position. They have a great a QB and they drafted a RB last year so I really doubt that they will pick their.

Today I have read about Tuscaloosa, Alabama and the storms they were having across the South, killing at least 272 people in six states, ravaging whole neighborhood and crippling towns. The majority of fatalities occurred in Alabama, where 184 people perished. Thirty-two people died in Mississippi, emergency officials said. Tennessee emergency officials said 33 people died in that state. Fourteen were dead in Georgia, eight in Virginia and one in Arkansas. Entire neighborhoods were leveled and hundreds of thousands of people were without power in the affected regions. As of 10 a.m. 11 a.m. ET, Alabama Power said nearly 348,500 customers had no electricity. As of Thursday morning, about 61,000 people in Georgia were without power, according to Georgia Power and the Georgia Electric Membership Corp. Bentley estimated as many as half a million to a million people had no electricity in Alabama.

Today I read aboutSouthern states being pounded by mayor storms; at least 250 people dead, The number of deaths hit 162 in Alabama alone, with loss of life in Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, Virginia and Kentucky bringing the preliminary total to about 250. That number is expected to rise. Aircraft flew in search missions, and rescuers on the ground used dogs to probe the rubble of homes and buildings. Local emergency officials interviewed on cable networks painted a picture of a massive cleanup across an area more than 60 miles long and more than half a mile wide in some places.Fugate said the scale of the damage was enormous, approaching the days of early April 1974, when more than 300 died from storms
It's long been a topic of discussion in intelligence circles and among those (myself included) who witnessed the intense U.S. aerial bombardment of Tora Bora that went on for nearly two weeks. Many analysts have suggested that bin Laden slipped through mountain passes into Pakistan, just a few miles away. But assessments of Guantanamo Bay detainees suggest he went in another direction, evading the mujahideen of the Northern Alliance, as well as the small detachments of U.S. special forces who we first saw in the area around December 8th.

Thursday- I read about few people have the ability to predict autism in babies but they can’t diagnose it until 3 or 4 years old. Researchers estimated that 20% of children flagged by the check list at 12 months will develop autism55% will develop a learning or developmental disorder. The average age of ASD is 5 yrs old most children show signs of ASD before 3 yrs old. Sometimes there could be early signs of autism or another language or a developmental delay is when they tell u something is wrong. My opinion about this article is that autism is not a bad thing nor it does not make them any different but, why should it matter if they do or not?
Today I read about how China’s population today is larger than it has ever been before. China's population has swelled to 1.3 BILLION people. The population of the second largest economy in the world shot up by 73 million people over the past decade, up 5.7 percent to 1.339 billion in November 2010 from 1.27 billion in 2000. At of the end of 2010, the population was expected to be 1.34 billion. China's migrant population is up 81.03 percent since 2000. I read that China in fact has a “one-child policy”. China's one-child policy shrunk the average size of a family to 3.1 people from 3.4 people.

Today I read about how a couple pleaded guilty to a kidnapping on Thursday. Phillip and Nancy Garrido pleaded guilty Thursday to the kidnapping and sexual assault of Jaycee Dugard, whom they held captive from age 11 through 29, the El Dorado County, California, district attorney said. Both Garridos will receive life in prison at a sentencing hearing scheduled for June 2, District Attorney Vern Pierson said in a statement. Through a representative, Dugard, now 30, expressed relief that her abductors "confessed.""I'm relieved that Phillip and Nancy Garrido have finally acknowledged their guilt and confessed to their crimes against me and my family," Dugard said in a statement released by her representatives at Nancy Seltzer & Associates, Inc., in Los Angeles. California law doesn't provide for a death penalty or a life sentence without possibility of parole for the offenses committed by the Garridos, Pierson said.
