Today I read about a 19-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly trying to sneak her husband out of prison in a suitcase, according to authorities in the Mexican Caribbean state of Quintana Roo. Authorities said that as she was walking up a staircase to leave the prison, Arjona hit the suitcase against the stairs. When something inside the bulky suitcase moved, guards noticed and stopped Arjona, who acted nervously. The guards then looked inside the suitcase and found her husband, Juan Ramirez Tijerina.

The NTSB and the Federal Aviation Administration are looking into the deadly crash, which occurred Saturday evening near Demopolis, Alabama.
Today Monday I read about former child refuge becomes heroes to hundreds of orphans . It started with 20 kids in a small safe house in Islamabad and a wonderful husband-and-wife team looking after the children. The main plan was to make sure that the children go to school as well. When I saw how quickly they blossomed being in the safe house and going to school, I realized I should do more than feed and house these children. I wanted to empower them with a sense of security, with education and eventually independence.

Today I read about ,A scandal that already has taken down Britain's best-selling Sunday tabloid and launched an inquiry into journalistic practices in the country widened Monday with startling allegations against two more News International newspapers. Former Prime Minister Gordon Brown believes journalists from The Sunday Times and The Sun newspapers tried to obtain private information from his financial records and telephone voice messages, a source close to Brown told CNN. Dozens of people are still missing after the ship Bulgari went down on Sunday, the ministry said. Monday. Today I read about the last Harry Potter film that will come out on July 15. Author, J.K. Rowling said that we will never know if another Potter movie will come out. She said, “never say never”. However to all the die-hard Potter fans, the website Pottermore will keep them up to date with many things, and there might even be a online massive multiplayer role-playing game. The cast from Harry Potter said as much as they loved it, they would most likely not film any more Potter movies. It has been their whole life, and although that is what made them famous, they are ready to move on to bigger projects. Honestly, I would love more Potter movies to be filmed.

While Pakistan has "been an important ally in the fight on terrorism," Daley said. Now they've taken some steps that have given us reason. To pause on some of the aid which we're giving to the military, and we're trying to work through that. A spokesman for the Pakistani military told CNN the military was not informed of any such plan. Senior U.S. officials, who declined to speak on the record because of the sensitivity of the situation, said the curtailing of aid, which represents a third of U.S. security assistance to Pakistan.

Today I read about a storm in Chicago. About 390,000 customers in the greater Chicago area were without power early Tuesday morning following massive storms that moved through the area a day earlier. Today I read about, It's hot. Not "How 'bout this weather?" hot, but buckle-the-pavement, too-hot-even-for-frozen-lemonade, three-showers-a-day hot, and it's that way across a broad swath of the country. "I just had to stop once in a while and catch a breath, it was just that tough to breathe," said Marion, Illinois, resident Ceasar Maragni, who opted to stay inside Tuesday after a swampy Monday evening trip to the Williamson County Fair. Even the frozen lemonade vendor was lagging with few customers in the nearly 100-degree evening heat, he said.
Joicei-Thursday I read Human trafficking cases, blind promises of freedom, forced prostitution rings — these aspects of modern-day slavery come to light all too often.Estimates of the number of slaves worldwide range from about 10 million to 30 million, according to policymakers, activists, journalists and scholars. Approximately 100,000 victims are in the United States, working as slaves inside homes, in agricultural fields, in the sex industry and other places, according to the U.S. Department of State’s 2011 Trafficking in Persons Report. That’s millions of women, children and men struggling to escape captivity. That’s millions of people wondering what it means or what it would take to be free again.

Today I read about Protesters shut down a San Francisco subway station Monday, angry about a transit police officer shooting a drunk man at a station earlier this month. A group called "No Justice, No BART" -- which formed after the 2009 shooting of an unarmed passenger by a Bay Area Rapid Transit Police officer -- organized the spirited, albeit largely peaceful rally centered at the city's Civic Center stop. That officer was eventually found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in Oscar Grant's death. The transit system, known in San Francisco as BART, said on its website that the more recent shooting occurred July 3, after police dispatchers got a call about "a drunk who was unsteady on his feet and in danger of falling off the platform."But the scores who attended Monday's "civil disturbance" loudly voiced their view that the Hill was a victim, who died without just cause at the hands of a transit police officer. No one has been charged in the shooting, which is the sixth in the system's 40-year history, according to BART. Yet while there has been no admission of police wrongdoing, the San Francisco transit system has charged its "first-ever Independent Police Auditor," according to a statement posted Monday on its website. a great relief that the independent auditor is in place to reassure the public that the investigation into the officer

Despite the thorough search of the region by Mexican and U.S. search teams, no signs of the missing men were found," U.S. Coast Guard Rear Adm. Joseph "Pepe" Castillo said in a statement. King was behind the wheel of a 1994 Mitsubishi when he was pulled over in Moreno Valley, in Southern California's Riverside County, the city's police department reported. Today I read about U.S. experts are calling for stepped-up safety measures at nuclear power plants following the March disaster in Japan, including new systems to keep reactors cool in case of a blackout. A Nuclear Regulatory Commission task force commissioned after the triple meltdown at Japan's Fukushima Daiichi plant says the risk of a similar accident in the United States is low, but any would be inherently unacceptable. The commission called for replacing a "patchwork" of existing regulations with a logical, systematic and coherent set of rules. We looked at ensuring protection, enhancing accident mitigation, strengthening emergency preparedness and improving the efficiency of NRC program. Among the 12 proposals delivered Tuesday are calls for plant operators to rethink each facility's disaster plans, including how big an earthquake, tornado, tsunami or flood the plant is designed to withstand. The task force also recommended stronger oversight of plant safety performance, with more focus on defense-in-depth regulations. It was the loss of coolant systems following Japan's March 11 earthquake and tsunami that caused the meltdowns at the three operating reactors at Fukushima Daiichi, about 250 miles north of Tokyo. The resulting release of radioactivity was the worst nuclear accident since the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, forcing Japanese authorities to evacuate more than 100,000 people from homes up to 40 km (25 miles) away.

Today I read about, At the heart of the contentious talks between the White House and congressional Republicans on whether to raise the debt ceiling is a simple, one-sentence document many conservative lawmakers have signed, pledging not to increase taxes. He has worked under Ronald Reagan, is close friends with Karl Rove and has been connected to scandals involving onetime Christian Coalition chief Ralph Reed and convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff. His group, funded through both individual donations and major corporate dollars, has the grass-roots power -- and has used it -- to raise money, run TV ads and campaign against politicians who violate that pledge. He proudly points to trophies of those who have been brought down, defeated in subsequent elections after voting to raise taxes.

Today I read about Mexico's president approved several changes to the country's constitution Wednesday aimed at cracking down on human trafficking. President Felipe Calderon announced two of the changes, one that requires those accused of human trafficking to be imprisoned during trials, and one that guarantees anonymity of victims who denounce the crime. It is important that they can give their testimony to the authorities and to society without being at risk. Calderon gave Mexico's Congress 180 days to approve a new nationwide human trafficking law that will reform and streamline how authorities handle such cases across the country. There are thousands and thousands of cases, in a society that is still unaware of the seriousness of this crime. We have to break through this curtain that is hiding from the Mexicans a criminal reality that is in front of us. With increasing frequency. Criminal organizations that ship and sell drugs and weapons have added human trafficking to their repertoire.
Today I read about how for many, summer means vacation, sports, camping or just time off to relax, but not for millions of kids living in poverty in the United States. There are few camps or beach trips for them, and sometimes not even three meals a day. During the school year, public schools provide breakfast and lunch to millions of students in the United States. But when summer arrives, parents struggling to feed their children can no longer rely on those meals. More than 21 million children receive free or reduced-price lunches at school. But in the summer, the number of kids participating in food programs drops to fewer than 3 million, despite efforts to raise awareness and increase community support, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said.

Births have overtaken immigration as the driving force behind the growth of the Mexican-American population in the United States in the past decade, according to a report released Thursday by the Pew Hispanic Center. The same can be said for the entire Hispanic population of the United States, which grew from 35.3 million in 2000 to 50.5 million in 2010, accounting for 16.3% of the U.S. population, according to U.S. Census Bureau data. About 58% of that growth resulted from births rather than the arrival of new immigrants, the report says. The trend is most evident among Mexican-Americans, whose numbers grew by 7.2 million as a result of births and 4.2 million from new immigrant arrivals in the past decade, reversing trends from the previous two decades, when the number of new immigrants matched or exceeded the number of births, the report says.
