Today I read about, It's been nearly four decades since a man calling himself Dan Cooper jumped out the back of Northwest Orient Flight 305, somewhere between Seattle and Reno, Nevada, carrying a parachute and some $200,000 in pilfered money. It's not known where Cooper landed, or if he even survived the jump. But the case lives on in infamy, what the FBI calls "one of the great unsolved mysteries" in the agency's history.

Today I read about the Ramadan offensive has begun here, an obvious date to rally supporters of the al Qaeda affiliated AlShabaab militant group, but this year feels a little different.I was in the Somali capital two years ago and every night, just before the call to prayer signaled the breaking of the fast, we'd hear a cacophony of mortar rounds and gunfights.Somali friends told me back then the militants believed dying in battle while still fasting would ensure they "entered heaven without even taking their shoes off."This year Al-Shabaab's grip on the capital and the loyalty of Somalis feels more tenuous. Since I was last here in 2009 the rains have failed and the drought has spread bringing with it famine and desperation.
Tuesday. Today I read about a family who adopted a 21-year-old guy. Charee, the adoptive mother, said that she has known Billy since he was 14. She was the director of a program for abused and neglected children. She felt a comfort with Billy, and she cared for him greatly. Charee also said that they used to have these talks where Billy would tell her what his dreams in the future were. Billy then became a fixture into their home. At first she said it would be just Thanksgiving and Christmas. Then he started babysitting Charee’s daughters, and bringing girlfriends to introduce to the family. When he was 18, he was given a key to the house to come in whenever he wanted to. He was even on the family cell phone plan. He joined the marines. The family thought about formally adopting Billy. When Charee told him the news, he was happy and gladly accepted. Now he is officially part of the family, and the whole family is happy to have him.

Today I read about, The medical examiner's office in Concord, New Hampshire, will conduct an autopsy Tuesday morning on the body of Celina Cass to determine how the 11-year-old girl died. The father of the 11 year old girl says he doesn’t know why someone would want to do that to his daughter. He has no answer to any questions. They have no one under custody under suspicion. The young girl Celina's body was found around 10:30 a.m. Monday by divers from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. They also say that the case is being called “suspicious”. They are going to do a routine house check on her parents house to see if they find anything that might help.

Wednesday. Today I read about 72 people who were charged in a global online child pornography ring that was originated in Louisiana. It is described as the largest prosecution of its kind. The action began in December 2009, when it targeted 500 people around the world. They participated in a program/website named Dreamboard. It was a members-only bulletin board that encourages and promotes pedophilia and sexual abuse of very small children. The website used sophisticated techniques to attempt to avoid law enforcement detection. There was an only gallery of graphic images and videos of adults molesting young children. The major and most important rule of Dreamboard is very clear, to encourage and incentivize child pornography. Members of the Dreamboard organization were spread across five continents and 13 countries. The more people uploaded, the more access they had. If the files they uploaded had them abusing the child, they would obtain more respect. Arrests are already being made, and those people are pleading guilty.

I read Six-year-old Karina Ricci doesn't ever have a typical day. She has no schedule to follow, no lessons to complete.
She spends her time watching TV, doing arts and crafts or practicing the piano. She learned to spell by e-mailing with friends; she uses math concepts while cooking dinner.
Everything she knows has been absorbed "organically," according to her dad, Dr. Carlo Ricci. She's not just on summer break -- this is her life year round as an at-home unschooler.

Today I read about, Tiger Woods has not won a golf tournament in 628 days. We're not talking about major golf tournaments, either, the events like the Masters and the U.S. Open that define a player's career. We're talking about any golf tournament, be it a run-of-the-mill PGA Tour event or, as far as we know, even a country-club scramble. It is a stunning stretch for a man who once dominated the sport unlike any player before him, one that includes a self-imposed exile amid a tabloid scandal and two injury-related absences.
