The sheriff's station in Compton was so overwhelmed with apparent prank calls for two hours Friday evening that help was delayed in response to urgent calls about a missing person, a spousal assault, two robberies and a stolen car, Capt. Mike Parker, Los Angeles County Sheriff spokesman, said.
Monday. Today I read about the Amanda Knox case. This case was being held in Perugia, Italy. Amanda Knox is an American woman. She was convicted with murder on 2007 of her roommate Meredith Kercher. She was sentenced to 26 years in prison, and her boyfriend at the time was convicted to 25 years for murder. Many people are still curious about this case. They wonder what really happened in that room that night. Another raging question is whether she is being treated differently because of the cultural and judicial differenced of the U.S., Italy, and U.K.

Today I read about At a summer camp in central Florida, students learn the fundamentals of flying an airplane -- not just from a computer simulator, but from an actual airplane cockpit. It was epically scary,Brandon Hardy, 16, said after he flew and landed a plane for the first time. "My knuckles were white, my toes were curled in my shoes. It's amazing just how well an 11-year-old can do flying an airplane, said Ernie Sanborn, who operates the summer camp. You'd think it's much beyond their capabilities but they actually do a lot better and adapt to it much easier than older students.Model planes made of balsa wood are used to teach the importance of weight and balance on a plane. If the wood plane flies straight up when thrown, then tape is used on the nose to keep it level. Too much tape and the plane makes a nosedive into the ground, a simple yet effective lesson
Monday. Today I read about Detectives in southern California that searched Sunday for clues to crack the case of a stolen piece of artwork by Dutch master Rembrandt van Rijn, thought to be worth some $250,000. A James Arthur Ray who was convicted in the deaths of three participants in an Arizona sweat lodge ceremony deserves a new trial. A self-help guru negligent homicide in the deaths of the participants, but an Arizona jury in June deemed him not guilty of manslaughter charges. Ray's attorneys will go before a judge claiming he should be tried again because of prosecutorial misconduct. During the month of July the us. army reported 32 suicides. Cnn got a document that had reported about 50 -60 more reports of suicides that they had counted as potential suicides. Every suicide represents a tragic loss to our Army and the Nation. So far in 2011 the air force has 28 suicides the marines have 21 and the navy 33. no one really knows why there is so many suicides in the army besides the fact that it is the biggest branch of service.
Today I read about Gunfire and shelling rang out across Syria's coastal city of Latakia early Tuesday amid reports of Palestinian refugees fleeing a restive and impoverished enclave there. At least five people died on Tuesday and the city remained under siege amid a military offensive against protesters. The humanitarian situation deteriorated amid the government's offensive in the city. Shops and bakeries were closed and at least two mosques were damaged. The gunfire could be heard all night and morning. This is the fourth day that we do not have electricity or water. Landline phone connections have been down most of the day. Snipers perched atop various locations in the city's al-Ramel neighborhood, the site of a Palestinian refugee camp. The LCC, a network of opposition activists, said the area's lack of basic urban services could be a reason why those in Ramel are angry at the Syrian government.

The highest amount of deaths from this case were recorded in 1980 with eight deaths. This amoeba is called Naegleria fowleri. It is the only type that infects humans and is more than 95% lethal. One of the first deaths occurred in June in Louisiana (2011). Another 16-year-old teen died Saturday after becoming infected with the disease. The teen’s mother said that her daughter had complained of a headache, and threw up 20 times. She ran a fever up to 104 degrees. The mother also stated that the girl would lay in bed and roll her eyes around, she could not shut them. Usually death occurs 7 days after symptoms start. This infection is difficult to treat.
Thursday. Today I read about a girl who was raped many times by a male student at her school. School officials failed to protect this female student from repeated sexual assaults. At one point, they had the nerve to expel her for reporting the “alleged” attacks. However, after a long period of time, this girl went through a rape examination that proved she was telling the truth. The male student pleaded guilty to all the charges. CNN still does not know which of the chargers did he plead guilty to. The lawsuit said that in 2008-2009 in Middle School, the girl was in special education classes. The school officials did not believe her, and made her write an apology letter to the boy. After being expelled, she was allowed back in the next school year. The girl was scared to go back, as she did not want to be raped. Many nights she did not sleep. On February 2010, the same male student dragged her into the library and raped her once again. When she reported it again, although she was scared they would not believe her, the officials treated the case again as the previous year.

At the heart of the bill is a question that's been pondered by legal scholars, law enforcement and even the Supreme Court: Should juveniles who have committed crimes that led to a life prison sentence be given a second chance? California law allows kids as young as 14 to be sentenced to life without parole for certain crimes. opponents say the bill would traumatize crime victims and their families.

Today I read about a hacker publicly posted Wednesday the home addresses and other information of all 102 police officers with San Francisco's Bay Area Transit system, the second hacking incident against one of its websites since Sunday. The website for the BART Police Officers Association was broken into Wednesday morning, and the names and phone numbers of its entire membership were also posted publicly on the Internet. The officers association, or union, took down their website after the hacking incident. It wasn't clear Wednesday who was to blame for the latest hacking incident. BART has been at the center of controversy about shootings by its officers, the latest being last month that resulted in the death of Charles Hill. BART officials denounced Wednesday's hacking. We condemn this latest attack on the working men and women of BART. We are deeply concerned about the safety and security of our employees and their families. We stand behind them and our customers who were the subject of an earlier attack. We are deeply troubled by these actions.
Today Thursday I read that a thirteen year old girl belonged to the criminal group of drug traffickers, the Zetas. When she got caught
The reporters questioned her:
What cartel were you working for? "For the Zetas."
Does your family know this? "Yes."
What did they tell you? "That I should leave."
How much were they paying you? "4,000 (pesos) every two weeks."
Since when? "Since a month ago."
How did you enter? "By necessity."
The girl said that her mother had introduced her to La Chaparra. Nevertheless, she said that she was the only member of her family who was working for the Zetas.
The girl was taken to the facilities of the Jalisco delegation of the attorney general's office, where she remained for three days before being released because the Law of Integral Justice for Adolescents of the State of Jalisco stipulates that only offenders older than 14 are subject to serving time in jail.

Today I read about a controversial bill headed for a vote in California has stirred up conversation again about whether life sentences for juveniles need to be re-examined.Under the state bill, which received a key vote Wednesday to allow it to head to the Assembly floor for a vote, some juvenile offenders would get the opportunity for release. The bill, introduced by Sen. Leland Yee, D-San Francisco, would allow juveniles to ask a court to re-examine their sentences after they have served 15 years for their crime. Yee, who is also a child psychologist, argues that at certain ages, kids don't have the full capacity to understand their crimes, and locking juveniles up without giving them a chance to show they have gained that capacity isn't the right answer.

Today Friday I read about Six months and more than 17,000 air sorties after it began, NATO's Operation Unified Protector in the skies over Libya grinds on.
What was envisaged in March as a rapid engagement to prevent Moammar Gadhafi's forces from razing Benghazi to the ground has evolved into a long slog. And increasingly NATO operations have dovetailed with those of the rebels -- with the aim of making pro-Gadhafi forces incapable of offensive action.
The initial mandate set out by the United Nations Security Council resolution 1973 was to protect civilians under threat or attack, to enforce an arms embargo on the country and implement a no-fly zone.
"What was initially supposed to be a neutral intervention to protect civilians that were threatened specifically in Benghazi has morphed into being largely a one-sided affair to support the Libyan rebel force to overthrow Gadhafi," says Micah Zenko of the Council on Foreign Relations.
