Today I read about police have arrested a top lieutenant of the Arellano Felix cartel. Juan Francisco Sillas Rocha is considered one of the most violent subjects responsible for countless killings. Sillas, also known as "The Wheel," has been one of the key lieutenants in a brutal turf war over drug-trafficking territory. Last year he ordered the kidnapping of three women who were related to one of the rival cartel's leaders. Authorities arrested him in Tijuana Saturday.
Their son, Luke, now 4 years old, was born through in vitro fertilization.
The anti-abortion amendment being voted on this week in the state could restrict in vitro procedures, and the Carpenters are worried that if they wait too long to add to their family, they may end up breaking the law
Today I read that on Monday the Mexican defense ministry announced that a top lieutenant of the Arellano Felix cartel was arrested. Sillas, also known as "The Wheel," has been one of the key lieutenants in a brutal turf war over drug-trafficking territory with the Sinaloa Cartel, the defense ministry said in a statement. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Organization has said the Tijuana-based Arellano Felix Organization, also known as the Tijuana Cartel, is "known for its violence and ruthlessness

Today I read about a sweep of a jail in the resort town of Acapulco, Mexico, turned up a number of surprising guests over the weekend, including 19 prostitutes, two peacocks and 100 fighting roosters, authorities said. The jail's director, Carlos Coronel Avitia, and other jail officials are being investigated because of the contraband that was discovered, Martinez said. In addition to the 19 prostitutes, six female inmates were found living in the quarters of male inmates, another violation, Martinez said.More than 400 federal and state police, plus more than 80 marines, conducted the sweep.
11-8-11 Today I read an article with the title of 153 bodies identified from 2009 Air France crash. I read that 153 bodies have been identified from the 2009 crash of Air France Flight 447. Robert Soulas, president of an organization of victims' families, and Col. Jerome Servettaz, who is in charge of research for the French national police's air transport division, said 103 bodies have been identified since the end of 2009. Fifty had been identified in 2009.
11-9-11 Today I read an article with the title of Hospital struggles as rebels menace Sudan oil fields. I read that the only hospital on the border between Sudan and South Sudan is running short of supplies as rebels menace oil fields in the region. Pete Muller, a photographer and multimedia reporter based in Juba, Sudan who visited the isolated area near the Blue Nile and Nuba Mountains a few weeks ago. The area was heavily militarized and medical supplies were being depleted. On my first day we came under bombardment and were pinned down in a riverbed for about 45 minutes during the hottest part of the day.

Today I read about angry Syrian protesters camped out at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo hurled eggs and tomatoes at an opposition delegation Wednesday, preventing a meeting with the agency's chief. They were concerned the delegation would agree to a dialogue with the Syrian regime. Ahmed Hamoudi of the Syrian Revolution Coordination in Egypt, said the delegation's views were not in sync with the demands of those on the streets of Syria. Also Wednesday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said at least seven Syrian soldiers were killed in clashes with army defectors near the town of Mahrada. The plan also involves contacting foreign ministers in Arab countries including Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Libya and Kuwait in order to inform them of the horrific crimes the regime is committing in the city of Homs and several areas that are subjected to extensive military attacks. Those demands, the council said, include freezing Syria's membership in the Arab League, imposing economic and diplomatic sanctions on Syria by member states, sending a file alleging human rights violations and genocide to the International Criminal Court and recognizing the Syrian National Council as a legitimate representative of "the Syrian revolution" and people, among others.
Today I read that the world powers expressed alarm Wednesday at a critical report documenting Iran's progress toward making a nuclear bomb, with the British foreign secretary warning that his nation would take strong measures if the Islamic republic did not change direction. In its most detailed report to date on the military dimensions of Iran's nuclear program, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) found no evidence that Iran has made a strategic decision to actually build a bomb. But its nuclear program is more ambitious and structured, and more progress has been made than previously known, the report said."The agency has serious concerns regarding possible military dimensions to Iran's nuclear program," the report said. "After assessing carefully and critically the extensive information available to it, the agency finds the information to be, overall, credible. The information indicates that Iran has carried out activities relevant to the development of a nuclear explosive device."British Foreign Secretary William Hague said Britain has extended a hand of reconciliation to Iran again and again. It is time, he said, for Iran to accept.

Today I read about players and owners did not reach a deal early Thursday on the bitter labor struggle that has postponed the basketball season, but the two sides agreed to meet again later in the day to continue with the negotiations. Stern said he had frozen that deadline to allow negotiations to continue.Every day that we lose another game it causes both sides to recognize the damage, Stern told reporters. Other big issues include a fight over a move by owners to gain the bigger share of revenues and whether the NBA will strengthen its salary cap.The league's owners began a lockout of players in early July
